How to get your local business found on Google
When someone in your area searches for what you do, you want to be the business they find. That does not happen by accident. Here are the steps that make the biggest difference for local businesses, in the order you should do them.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is what shows up in Google Maps and the local results box. Claim it, verify it, and fill in everything: opening hours, services, photos and a good description. Businesses with complete profiles get significantly more calls and direction requests than incomplete ones.
2. Collect reviews, and reply to them
Reviews are the strongest local ranking signal you can influence. Ask happy customers right after a successful job, when it is easiest for them to say yes. A short message with a direct review link works best. Reply to every review, positive or negative: it shows Google and potential customers that you are active and you care.
3. Make your website fast and mobile-friendly
Most local searches happen on a phone. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, visitors leave and Google notices. A fast, mobile-first website is no longer a luxury: it is the baseline for showing up in search.
4. Say where you are, clearly
Your website should mention your city and service area in plain text: in your page titles, headings and contact page. It sounds obvious, but many sites never actually say where the business operates. Google cannot rank you locally if it cannot tell where you are.
5. Keep information consistent everywhere
Your business name, address and phone number should be identical on your website, Google profile, social media and directories. Inconsistencies confuse search engines and cost you rankings.
Do these five things consistently and you will outrank most local competitors within months. Need help? This is exactly the kind of work we do every day.
